New Music Video - TV Games are bad for you

Hi all,
Wasn't quite sure whether to post this here but these forums are kind of like the only animation forums I frequent.
I've recently 'finished' an animated music video for my brother and my band 'The Kiffness' http://www.thekiffness.com
It was all done in Toon Boom Storyboard Pro and Toon Boom Animate 2. I'd have liked to have used Anime Studio but the freehand drawing tools aren't quite there yet, unfortunately.
Anyways, I'd really like crits and suggestions how I can make this better. I still plan on adding shadows to the characters and putting in little things. I tend to get a lot of value from comments, so thanks for anything you can pass my way.
(OLD PROGRESS: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0LxsNMxIdBA)
NEW PROGRESS: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RowTgrG2keM
(Unlisted for now, first draft I guess)
Also got a new website. Woop:

Awww man... Mikadog I never know what I love more with your stuff, the animation or the music.. I just end up watching and rewatching it.
I love the racoon that pops up to do the echo on the whisper.
inspiring stuff both visually and musically.

What *if* the Hokey cokey *is* what its all about?

I love the anarchic quality of your stuff -- there isn't enough of that going around! But if you are asking for comments, I'd say that the disconnected quality that runs through the clip is just a bit TOO disjointed. I'd like to see the dog feature a lot more to tie things together(kinda like the goldfish elsewhere), and more differentiation between an 8-bit universe and the 'real world' (whatever that is).
But, yeah, I'm a big fan.

You can't have everything. Where would you put it?
I became a bit in-active in this forum (since my studies are time-consuming and I am making much music for business right now), but I am very happy that I found this thread. I really love your music! Seriously I like it that kind of experimental but it's still very among the hearing-habit and not boring repetitiv. Very creative and just smart in an interesting way. I am out of words.
Oh yeah the video .. hm well ... it's .... awesome, too, of course! It fits really nice.
Keep on the good work. Hopefully you'll have much luck and achievementts with your project.

Thanks guys!
A couple more touch-ups, some colour correction by somebody else (my brother and I both slightly colour-blind for real lol) and nearly good to go.
This was, I might add, a super-fun project to work on. Not only were we our own clients so I really had free reign to do whatever, and well...well thats it really! No issues with a client wanting changes here and there and not watering down the product. Was really great. I'm already looking forward to the next video my brother and I collaborate on for us.

Wicked fun! Dig the 8-bit style of the track. I love your style and characters, couldn't say it enough without gushing, haha.
Oh wow, bringing back the memories of the old cartridge days too - blowing into the cartridge before whacking it in the console (go Sega Megadrive!). Once upon a time I thought it was dust, but now I'm a Grown Up Geek I realise it was probably oxydation or something
High five!

Thanks guys! I stopped getting email alerts that replies had happened.
Lol it took, well ... I started this last year sometime I think, then did other stuff, then got around to it again. My bro and I did the first bit (about half) of storyboarding together, just straight ahead stuff with a basic premise in mind, but kind of just making stuff up as we went. Did that in Storyboard Pro with a Cintiq. Then I drew the outlines for stuff for the first half of the video over time. Then storyboarded the second half of the video fairly quickly, and drew all that. Then coloured both halves.
Looking forward to releasing it. Just a couple more things, perhaps to get it colour-corrected, and maybe as jahnocli says, to differentiate the 8bit world a bit from the normal style. I tried a pixelation filter, doesn't look too great. I think perhaps, as my brother suggested, some 8bit stuff in the sky like a floating box or something. I could also bump up the saturation but it may look more like a distraction or a mistake. I dunno, I'll test and see.
Yep. My bro's got some cool music. http://www.TheKiffness.com I get to hear most of it being made as he sits at a desk fairly close to me, sometimes blasting it out of his massive monitors. Awesome.
@ cheyne > lol. I also used to have a MegaDrive. And a Sega Master System before that. Good times. Now I have a Wii and my bro was jamming Super Mario Bros 1 on it earlier. What a great game. Still super playable.

@ Mikdog - yah man I had a Wii but got stolen, spewin' Never got a chance to get online and get some Wiiware. I actually spent a couple of years just playing SNES and Medadrive even though I had a Xbox 360 and gaming PC available. Like you say about Mario Bros still being playable - it's a testament to good game play and not having to rely on graphics! ..,.. sorry off topic kind of,hehe

Really? guess its one of those preference things... I've been pimping http://www.thekiffness.com all over twitter purely on the basis of this vid..dm wrote:I agree with the too disjointed comment. It feels like an animatic.
Looks like you did a bunch of cycles, and stuck them together. It doesn't really have a visual 'flow'.
Otherwise, it's fun, and sort of works.
Guess I cant give it the animators eye only that of a consumer..
