The switch layer has only one timeline, where the keys for the switches are placed. Other than that, it doesn't have functionality.
If you want to move one of the views of your character, you have to go inside the switch folder to that specific layer which has its own timeline.

I always found this the hardest part of design: to choose colours which work well together and let the characters stand nicely before the BG. I already mentioned the lessons on John Kricfalusi's site several times, they're great! Let's see if I can put something from those lessons to good effect. 1....

1. Create a switch layer. 2. Put one layer for each view into the switch layer. (into = drag it on top of the switch layer until this turns red, the release.) It doesn't matter if these layers are vector layers or images or groups or bone layers. 3. All those layers need to be visible. 4. Choose a t...

Antony, your character can be done with images right now, without waiting for a new software version. You just have to duplicate the seperate vector layers of the parts of the armour and use them as masks for image layers. You will end up with a bunch of group folders for all those parts, but these ...

That's really enough. A tip here: try to make the initial position of the tail not in an S-curve but more like a J or ). Then, in animation, you could select all bones with cmd-A, then use the rotate bones tool (R) to get a very smooth transition to the opposite side. Same can be done with just a po...

Changing the timing was never the easiest thing, but depending on how much of a change was asked for different techniques were differently labourious. Drawn animation is kind of easy this way. Throw out a bunch of drawings, re-number others or change the X-sheet - done. I'd like to have a bitmap ani...

It depends on the amount of preparation done before animation wether AS works or not. We have a detailed Leicareel right now and all scenes lengths timed to the frame. Together with the dialogue this makes for a pretty rigid corset to work within. Since there is agreement over how fast a head turn s...

Principally you can import artwork from AI to AS. But colours and fills will not translate properly, and quite often you need to adjust point curvature. For anything which doesn't move it is best to import as a bitmap. A window in your BG can be made either as a transparency in a PNG (made within Ph...
