The ultimate and extreme crowd test

Post by Samb »

in the past, it was impossible to make a scene with more than a couple of animated people. but the new generation of animation-programs (called anime studio :D ) make things like that possible AND easy.
look at this:

first crowd test (with one of my webtoon characters)

and the animated version (9MB)

The problem is: the character haves a lot of detail.
the rendering takes forever.

so I thougt... what if I draw a very low detail character and then use the same technic with... I dont know... over 2000 more characters at the same time?
Image
kinda impressive hm? :)
I was broking the rendering up, because moho haves some depth sorting errors.
don't know why.. it all works ok at the start. but when the camera is moving down and forward, the character in the background will be drawn over the characters near the camera...
you can see it your self
here is the *.anme file:

have fun!

It goes at about 10 FPS when I open the file, but the movies are good. It must take a really good computer to randomize them if they had more details

the camera is to far away.
all is handled by four particle layer. and the last one got a to low life time, so they disapear before they reach the end of the screen.

Nice! Not enough people take advantage of the particle system. Too bad it doesn't work so well in swf format. Just think of the mayhem you could create with huge armies running around!
