Well, I like to do some research on things like this. The good news, it's free so you can't lose anything. I couldn't really find much information about it outside of their own marketing. The web site is full of typos and misspellings whcih quite frankly doesn't fill me with confidence... but IT'S FREE, so I can't complain too much.
One nagging thing kept popping up during my research. Their affiliate program. There seems to be a lot of debate about whether anyone has ever actually been paid or not.
The consensus seems to be... it's free, the service is pretty good... just don't sign up for the affiliate program and expect too much.

To be fair this company has been around since '06. Some people like the service (I've seen forum posts as recent as june). Others feel that the affiliate program IS a scam so the whole thing is a scam. No one knows where the money is derived to pay for it though.
I could not find a single reference to anyone who ever got paid through the affiliate program. Apparently you are suppose to get $5 for each person you get to sign up. It could be that the poster here is trying to get sign ups.
From what I learned this site may be associated with another site that offers cheap web hosting so the money might be coming from them from customers who "upgrade".
Putting all that aside I have not heard of any problems using this site for the free hosting. People seem pleased with it. Although there were some complaints about the version of MySQL (it's 4 and it should be 5? something like that).
Considering the almost total lack of any independent reviews of this it is hard to say what "bad" would come from signing up aside from a bunch of spam.
Just remember that sometimes you get what you pay for.

I only looked at the site quickly, but my first impression is that I'd still rather pay $5-$10 per month for a
Dreamhost site. At least I know I can rely on them, and I like their policy of openness and their philosophy that it's worth spending a bit of money to make even a disappointed former customer happy.
I just think it's only fair that I spam something too.

Found this apparently user rated ranking. Did some reseach myself, and Vern seems right. Their affiliate programs seems bogus, but seems to me that anyone wanting to get paid by their
free website is probably a link posting spammer who deserves it. Aside from a very few users that complain about not being able to access their website anymore, seems legit and well liked by users.

Thanks for the tip but I already have a paid account already with Hostess. I was more interested to see how long this one will last totally free....so far so good.
