Thanks, selgin, for great idea! Inspired by this topic, I tried to look at "sliding" problem from other side :) In fact, all we need is two points which moves in the manner of a pendulum. So I tried to make such kind of "helper" :) Hope it would be useful for someone.

You can download it here.

I have modified ITAK's idea a little bit:

walking.anme

You can import this in your project (you have to scale it and move it to fit). So it is easy to generate a walking animation:

Hi, I was thinking today about an easy way to teach how to make a good walk, with constant velocity and no sliding feet. I finally got the idea of making a simple and easy to use moving rule.

You can download it here (it's a vector layer inside a group)
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/54411/AS8/Walk% ... ruler.anme

Thanks to Hayasidist we now have the ruler for AS 7 too :), you can download the file here:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/54411/AS8/Walk% ... ler_7.anme

It works very good and I'll definitively use it for my own projects. The principle is simple: it's a rule which is moving at constant speed and you adapt your character's feet to it.
You only need to move and scale the rule in frame one to make the red lines touch the character heels.
You can easily change the speed of the rule to make slower or faster walks.

Anyway, it's better you see it in action, so I created a video tutorial showing how to use the ruler:

None of these links work and I would really like to see what this walk ruer looks like, is this still available anywhere? MacBook Pro, and Anime Studio Pro 11.2
