Was home sick today so went a bit farther with my ArtRage playing. I created a few more stones and some branches in ArtRage and then composited in Photoshop.
Feedback appreciated especially on lighting, but on any and all areas as I really need to step up my skills.
Also do you thing a piece like this is strong enough for a portfolio? I will be graduating in less than two months and don't have enough work to show. I'd like to work on 5 or 6 good pieces that might at least get me in the door.

Thanks for the feedback. I actually did paint that branch at a different time - thanks for pointing it out.
I am testing 3DS Max out now with some simple branches and lighting. Trying to visualize a cathederal like space behind the branches with columns of light but my painting isn't good enough to get that depth and lighting so I figured I can render it and maybe use that as reference.
Got to ask on CgTalk about lighting as I'm not expert with 3DS Max yet -looking for beams of light.

More School Work - 3 weeks to go ...
Thanks. I use to love to fish for bass, pike and other fish all over New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania when I was growing up.
Well, about 3 weeks away from completing my 18 month program at Brooks College. I have a few bits posted on my blog if anyone cares to look. Feedback is always welcome.

underwater scene tutorial
Use the Noise procedural and shape it till your satisfied. Its better than a bitmap since you can animate it entirely.
hope this help.

One of my classes this final semester has been Studio Production. It has been a few weeks of hectic but fun work to produce our student short. Were in the final stretch now and should be doing our final editing this weekend and we’ll be showing it at a student film festival in LA next week. Considering that we hammered this out with a full load of other classes, in about 8 weeks from conceptualization to final editing, I think it has gone well. We have a crew with varied talents and I hope I get to work with them all in the future.
