QuickTime & Flash

Hi,
greetings to you all.
When I try to open a flash movie file in Quicktime I get the following message:
"Couldn't open the file .swf because invalid media data was found in the movie"
The very helpful support team at Lost Marble told me it could be some sort of a "bug" in Quicktime.
I wonder if anybody has a similar problem with viewing a flash-movie.

I am using Moho 5 OSX 10.3.5 iMac G4 and Quicktime pro 6.5.1

quicktime doesnt open flash. at all.

I have NO idea why quicktime tries to associate with swf's my friend had that problem on his windows machine.

You need the flash player you can get it from

Hi spasmodic_cheese,

I installed the Flashplayer 7 and can nicely watch my flash-movies in any browser I have installed (looks really great). The controls you open with ctrl.click don't seem to work on my system
Leaves the question: How do I edit a flash movie ?

I did a test with Cinema 4D's Flash Ex plugin - works nicely in QuickTime
and browser. Seems to be I still have a lot to learn.

Im not sure what you mean about the ctrl.click thing... but ummm you cant really edit swfs like they were originally created.

I would suggest you obtain a copy of macromedia flash mx or mx04
Im sure theres some other swf editors for mac... but ehhhh. your better off with flash mx because it opens alot more options and cool stuff for you to explore later.

QuickTime does support Flash tracks. Generally, QuickTime 6 supports up to Flash 5. You can route supported media into the Quicktime player from the Embed/Object code. QuickTime is a very powerful tool in its own right. It's well worth taking a taking a closer look at what it can do.

"QuickTime for the Web" (ISBN 1-55860-904-0) from the QuickTime Developer Series provides a good overview.

flash 5?! ... what happens to actionscript when you bring it in as a track?

i still dont think it has reason to override file associations.

Well, You can export Quicktime from flash MX if this is to any help.
