Re: Real time Face Mocap in Moho
Chucky did some really interesting experiments with Moho motion capture a while back. A search in the forums should turn that up.
Natively, however, no. While Moho does have a basic tracker system built in, it's not like the modern face recording tech found in the two programs you mentioned.
TBH, I never found motion capture for cartoons to look as good as keyframed animation, but I see its usefulness for live animation performances. For example, the cartoon interviews they use to do on Late Night With Stephen Colbert. I think they used Adobe Character Animator for that. Or when you only require a limited range of motions, and you need to create a lot of footage, and you need it right away.
FYI, I've been experimenting Cartoon Animator with an iPhone to record face capture, and a Leap device for hands. It's pretty cool for what it is (fast acceptable results if you're not going to be picky) but, it's not something I would use in a normal animation production. As mentioned, the tech is okay for a limited range of motions and I'm trying not to be fussy about the quality. (Maybe ironically, I'm using this tech right now for a video about animating with Moho.)
I haven't tried Adobe Character Animator since its beta days. Back then, I thought it was just okay, but that was a long time ago. I should check it out again.
So, should Moho get this too? I don't think so, at least not right now. I would much rather see the developers focus on improving the freehand drawing tools and some of the i/o features (like the Layer Comps options I mentioned elsewhere this morning, or improvements to Moho Exporter, and maybe more robust FBX support.) It might be cool to see after some of the existing features and issues get more love.
