I here present
a bundle of softwares that can be used with anime studio for better results
Digicel Flipbook--for keyframe animations
Wings3d-----for 3d models creation-obj--3d models
Audacity--for audio editing,wav format conversion
Artrage--for the creation of good visuals, back grounds
Photoshop/gimp: for raster image editing with alpha
We can use anime studio as a compositing tool also
For specialised compositing use Combuston. It is a Entry level compositing

Autodesk Toxik was renamed Composite. It's a node based compositor and works great. Autodesk throws it in for free when you get Max or Maya.
After Effects is great and it's a layer based compositor. It's also a great animation tool, and lots of fun.
Blender has a sequencer which can do a lot too (and it's free.) Blender has nodes too.
I think it's possible to do a lot of compositing in ASP by using video as texture and stuff, but I suspect image degradation would pile up pretty quick.

Yes it would, as footage gets re-compressed all the time.2ner wrote:I think it's possible to do a lot of compositing in ASP by using video as texture and stuff, but I suspect image degradation would pile up pretty quick.
I get Composite with Softimage, why is it peoples always leave Softimage out!
Since I don't think Composite comes standalone any more, but only bundled, it becomes quite expensive to use it, out of getting a demo of one of Autodesk 3D applications.
At work, we use Nuke, which is out of this world, but cost much!
To answer aji, since Autodesk Combustion is out of commission, you just cannot get a demo of it any more, hence my quoting After Effects for compositing.
There was a conversation about free composition software not so long ago, seems there are freeware solutions for compositing, which might be a good solution for hobbyist.
Now, if you make a living of 2d animation, there are some nice Adobe bundles that can suit pretty much anything for 2d productions.
Toonboom Animate pro has a good node based compositor btw!
Also, After Effects is a pretty good 2d animation package on it's own!

For compositing you could try HitFilm (there's a demo) which, unlike After Effects, is a true 3D compositor. Sony are now bundling the standard version with Vegas Movie Studio....
