Layer binding does stop point binding, but Link Bones to Layer does not. As long as you're using one of the linked bones for point binding, they will not conflict.

Point binding alone will not work for vitruvian bones.
You either need to bind the layer to the bone or use Bone>Link Bones to Layer, to bind to selected bones only.
Then you can also do any point binding needed on top of that.

This will work with a smart bone, but not when moving it through a target bone. You have to rotate the the smart bone yourself for it to translate to the dynamics.

If you go into the text layer vector settings and remove the original curver, like you would a smart mesh, then it will let you create a new curver from the menu.

If we had a problem file to look at, I'm sure there is a way to fix it without re-rigging. An interesting side effect of using shading for the physics group layer is that as rocks near each other you get a light reflection effect on their shadow side. More noticeable on the lighter colored rocks.
