Don't you remember what happened with Region coding for DVDs? They tried to make it illegal to sell a multi-region DVD player. What happened? The consumer demand for multi-region was so strong that people started selling them anyway. Now those players are commonplace. There's not really anything to ...

Thanks for the info, Rhoel, it's good to know the (few) limitations AS has, so that we can concentrate on creating rather than technical problem solving. :D

three days for some killer scenes
Good grief! How many frames were you doing? What's your average HD render time per frame? What's the complexity that's causing the slowdown? This should be revealed so that others can work around it, we can't all afford a render farm... :(

The Tab is competing with Toon Boom Studio - look at their product range, it's almost identical to Toon Boom's. Harlequin = Harmony, Bravo = Solo, The Tab = Toon Boom Studio, Tab Lite = Toon Boom Express. As regards Creatoon, it hasn't been updated since 2004, and it is so simple that LM could proba...

Perhaps with Vista we're seeing the beginning of the end of Windows. I doubt if there will be ever a next version of Windows, other than service packs.
I remember the same things being said about XP 7 years ago...

I showed this to a friend who's actually programming games on Vista - he said that while parts of it are technically true, the conclusions are all wrong.

Don't worry, it's not going to affect the likes of us.

Didn't LM say that because of the way AS is programmed, it can't take advantage of hardware acceleration? So it's not worth getting an expensive graphics card unless you're also planning to use a 3D package or run games.

Maya and the other big guys need to be worried I remember seeing these sort of comments on the Animation Master forum years ago, and the Cinema4D forum, and the Lightwave forum. They all have "pretty much" the same functionality as the high-end apps, yet none of them have usurped the big ...

Why then should you as an animation studio invest in expensive soft- and hardware if you're doing mostly TV work? Well, if $1000 of high-end software allows you to save $1001 of labour costs compared to a lower-powered "free" software, then it is worth it. The problem is, if you have a st...

Studios who adopt Blender are going to have lower operating costs, and therefore have the commercial tendering advantage. There's a flaw in your logic. Are the most profitable studios using Cinema4D? Or Animation Master? Or pirated versions of Max/Maya/XSI? Or letting their employees buy their own ...

I just spoke to a very talented friend who uses Blender at home and Maya at work. He said that Blender matches 50% of what Maya does feature for feature. The next 30% of what Maya does, Blender can do but nowhere near as good (and not necessarily at industrial strength). And Blender can't do the las...

I would imagine LM is busy with the problems of going truly mass market - there'll be lots of compatibility issues now that the potential marketplace is wider. It makes financial sense to prioritize the masses (potential users), rather than the "power users" (who've already bought it). E-f...
