Disadvantages of using PATCH LAYERS?

Post by digitalartguru »

Hello,

Are there any disadvantages of using PATCH LAYERS? Can it brake my rig at some point. Anything I need to keep in mind?

Thank you!

The biggest disadvantage I can think of is that Patch layers won't work on grouped artwork or switch layers. Another limitation might be that they're only/always circular in shape.

But you can work around these limitations if you manually set up a 'patchoid' layer using a mask. Here's an old thread on the topic...

I posted some updated info here...

Most of the time, real Patch layers work fine for what they're designed for, and they're easier to set up than the manual approach. But knowing how to do this manually is handy when you need the extra capabilities.

Hope this helps.
