12 Months in the making: Phungus & Mowld New Episode

This time it took me 12 months to put out a new episode and it's finally complete.
This is my one-man animation project, which I do in my spare time.

I've used Moho for all character animation and Apple Motion for compositing, special effects and some of the non character animation like spaceships (it's so much faster rendering). This time around I found Moho 13.5 to be rock solid. It only crashed very few times and it never damaged any data. Even long dialogue scenes (1 minute+) which used to make Moho very unstable and would even crash on saving the file (doh!) with version 12, I can now work on without worrying about stability. As always editing was done on Final Cut Pro.

Also I rendered some of the scenes on my son's M1 Pro, which is a beast. Playback in the Moho viewport is butter smooth even with complex scenes, and it's easily twice as fast as my 16" intel MacBook Pro (and never gets very hot – I only had the fans going about two times on the M1). I'm definitely going to get an M2 Max, once it's out in the next few months.

Here are two trailers, the full episode is 21 minutes long.

Trailer “Wild West“ (serious edition)

Trailer “Mowld is Backer” (fun edition)

Wow. Wonderfull Killian. A full year to make 40 minutes of film all by yourself. Your perseverance is an example to me. The quality is also high standard. Keep the good work going.

I can understand why it took so much time it took to complete this. The characters are animated from multiple camera angles and the camera does not spend more than a few seconds at any one view. Add to that the ability to create a story and make the characters compelling. The story board has to be huge.
Well done.

Thanks a lot. Please note that the above are only trailers for a full 22 minute episode. Here are storyboards for the full episode (every image is an entry with 2-3 sub images on my Notion.so system).
