change direction of the mouse scroll zoom

Post by skygazer »

Hi there!

Recently switched from Anime Studio 11.2 to MOHO 13.5 and now the mouse scroll zoom does the opposite, is there a way to change that? Nothing in the preferences and in the keyboard settings I can only add/change keyboard commands
AS 11 > Scroll Forward > Moves Away from the object
MOHO 13 > Scroll Forward > Moves to the object

It's kind of difficult to change that habit if you have done it for years

Kind Regards

That's odd...it works the same way for me in 12.5 and 13.5.2: rolling it forward moves you into the scene, rolling it backward move you out.

To me, this is the correct behavior. Imagine the mouse controlling a camera: rolling it forward moves you into the scene, rolling it backward move you out.

Are you saying it's doing the opposite for you in Moho 13.5.2?

Oh, wait...sorry, I just realized you're talking about ASP 11, not 12.5. I don't remember how it worked in ASP 11 but the current behavior is how it's been for quite a long time now. That said, yeah, I guess an option probably should exist. I'll ask about it.

In the meantime, do you have a Logitech mouse? If so...

1. Launch the Logitech Options program and select your device.
2. Click on the Point and Scroll tab.
3. Click the Applications button in the upper right corner and select Moho.
4. Over on the left, set the Thumbwheel Direction to the direction you prefer. (The options are Default or Inverted.)

This should make the mouse behave this way specifically for the chosen program, and keep its normal default behavior everywhere else. I only have Logitech devices here but I imagine other mice may have similar control panels.

Hope this helps.

Hmm...that's annoying.

I have a wired mouse around here (it's good to have one when you need to use a mouse in windows Safe Mode,) but I'm not sure it's Logitech. I'll take a look this afternoon and see if I can figure out a solution with it.

Oh, duh...I just realized that most of the time, I don't even use the mouse wheel to zoom.

I normally use the right-mouse button to pan, and when I need to switch to zoom mode I press and hold shift while 'panning' L/R to zoom in and out. Shift switches the mouse from panning mode to zoom mode directly under the cursor.

The mouse wheel is certainly more convenient if you don't have your other hand on the keyboard (I usually do,) but I find using Shift+RMB zooms in more smoothly and precisely than the mouse wheel zoom.

I know this is not what you asked for but it's another option to try.

BTW, to complete the command set, press and hold Ctrl while panning L/R switches to Rotate mode.

To recap...

RMB to pan
Shift+RMB to zoom
Ctrl+RMB to rotate

This works great with a stylus too.

I checked Logitech's website and some of their corded mice use the older Set Point software to change settings. That software seems to still be available.

But to be sure, check which mouse you have to get the proper software.

AS11 had an option in General Settings to "Invert zoom wheel direction"- which I used because AS11 was back-to-front. Moho 12+ does not appear to have that option.

Yeah, ever since they got rid of the invert scroll option, I've had the problem too. Ever number inputs move the wrong way, going higher when you scroll down and lower when you scroll up.

Are you sure you are holding your mouse the right way around ? :D

Touch pad. I'm pretty sure the laptop screen goes above the keyboard.
