Music! (New, good, mine.)

Post by slowtiger »

I'm very proud to announce the release of my very first album:

https://slowtiger.bandcamp.com/album/tabletop-travel.

I didn't do much animation last year (only some jobs and some Corona-quips), instead I concentrated on finalizing some of the many unfinished tracks on my HD. I'm planning to continually release much more over the next years! So, have a look, and an earful. Enjoy!

Good stuff. My favourites were Backyard Brass and Salbad.
You can't have everything. Where would you put it?

Hi slowtiger,

I listened to a couple of tracks and really like what I'm hearing! Looking forward to listening to the entire album while working today.

Thanks for sharing your work! :)

I was intrigued by the Chinese characters -- should we be calling you Màn hŭ? :)

This is the image from a stamp friends of mine commissioned when they were in China, a literal translation of "slow tiger".

I'm listening to this now, really good stuff. I record my own originals as well (mostly as a hobby, not for money...I wish) What do you play what kind of instrument? What do you use to record? (if you don't mind me asking) I use to have Sonar X3 now it's BandLab. For a little less complicated stuff (for me anyway) I'll use FL Studio (producer ed.) Got tired of the latency with my electric guitar so I also have a Zoom R8. My favorite now and new edition is the Roland FA 07 I love this keyboard. It does everything! (might even start my car in the morning!)

I also just noticed the Born in 1962 I'm February '62!

Love the sound of the drums on Ruwenzori Ride
Nice changes in Redsixsix!
Wow just chilling on the Ballroom Lightning (reminds me a little of older Pink Floyd)
To me the best was the final track Sansan I really liked that one, nice work!!

Thanks for sharing!

bows Thank you so much for your kind words!

Most of this was done by creating and shifting around notes in Logic. I don't do much playing nowadays since I've lost some coordination in my fingers, but still there's some small parts done by hand, which I find necessary to avoid that "computer feeling" - stuff like the cowbell here and there, or some dombak in the background. This and voice recording is done wich my SPL Nugget through a Behringer Ultragain.

The drums in Ruwenzori Ride are all conga and bongo samples from lots of different old drum machines, all put together in a single sampler instrument. I was already asked about my "drum loops": there aren't any! It's all done note by note, half of it using the preset samples in Logic, the rest with samples of my own making - some stuff is really old, like sounds I created in the 80's on tape loops.

Very good. I played drums as well but not anymore so when I'm recording I like to tap out the drum beats on the key pads. I don't usually use loops either.

I use to pay keyboards, but i suck at it. You know you should quit when both the dog and cat in the room have their paws over their ears.

I agree with Dennis Salbad was anything but bad.
Really liked Sansan, also Sensect and Fimbo.
Did you use real hardware analogue synths?
There's something magically fun and specific about dialling in sounds on those.

No, it's all done with the plug-in instruments in Logic. Of course it helps that I have some experience with real hardware (starting with fiddling with an EMS VCS 3 in 1977) so I know where to tweak to get the sound I want. Other than that it's some stuff recorded and sampled, like cowbells, some percussion, my old Casio VL-tone.

Only two months later and I have a new album out! (Yes, there's a reason for that speed - I'm in a race against my hearing loss. Don't worry, I'm good for another 10 years or so, I hope.)

This time it's dub. Not your average THC-induced slow motion club dance dub, but the noisy, quirky one like in the 80's.
