macOS is deprecating openGL/OpenCL

Hi there!

I´m really just an animator and not a software engineer. However, I´m really curious and a bit worried about how this will affect MOHO the coming years. Any predictions or thoughts on this would be interesting, from someone who can predict this better!

READ APPLE´S ANNOUNCEMENT IF YOU MISSED THIS:
https://developer.apple.com/macos/whats-new/

In forums for 3D softwares like Blender and Cheetah3d this is discussed a quite bit, but i´m not sure how big the challange is for a 2d animation software like MOHO to solve this?

As I understand the discussions above there seems to be two major ways discussed to maintain long time support for MacOS:
1. Rewrite the application for VULCAN and use MoltenVK to map it to METAL (Good for multiplatform support since only one version to maintain.)
https://moltengl.com/moltenvk/

2. Rewrite the application for METAL and still maintain the OpenGL version. (Requires a lot more of effort from the developers.)

Any thoughts on this? :?

It sounds like Apple is trying to kill cross-platform support of apps and programs. They'll likely spin this as another brave move on their part. Seriously, what are they thinking? Do they expect every company to support apps specific to every platform? I don't think the Moho team has the resources to support both Metal and OpenCL, so what would probably happen is that they'll stick with OpenCL as long as they can and eventually move to Vulcan which by then will hopefully have support for both Mac and Windows.

Any thoughts on this?
Ahhh Apple.... luckily, everyone is desperate to stay in their 'ecosystem' .
They are right for now, but this attitude will probably wear pretty thin with developers if they force the hand too often.
It might be what they want though, thin the herd?
All depends on how hard it is to implement I guess and what the benifits are.

Greed driven power hungry control freaks and I used to be a Fan Boy but they lost me they should change the name instead of destroying what Steve Jobs Built.

Read this from the Blender siggraph report which sounds promising for mac users. Hopefully it will make the transition easier for apps like Moho as well:

https://www.blender.org/press/siggraph-2018-report/

"Had a long chat with Neil Trevett of Khronos. They’re actually funding Blender development now (glTF exporter). He also would look forward seeing us moving to Vulkan – we can make a project plan for it. And he knows that Apple Metal and Vulkan will get a good compatibility library as well. No worries for the Apple users then!

My next purchase will be Microsoft's surface-book pro. Mac is just monopolistic.
