Walk path

I'm in Poser 9.5
How do I create a walk path?
When I do this in the FIGURE tool it creates one automatically.
This is always too long and I can't find any way to shorten it.
Is there actually a way to create one or is the one provided the only way to get one?
Sometimes the figure goes its own merry way it seems.
I don't have any problem with the walk designer.
