big thanks for the forum upgrade! (and a little wishlist)

Big thanks for the forum upgrade!
It has been overdue for a while, but it's certainly nice that it is happening now. :)

Since you are in the middle of process of updating right now, can I make a litte
suggestion...?

Pick some of the best youtube, vimeo (etc) video embedding add-ons and include them here on the board.

This is an animation software forum after all and people like to share their stuff, so it would certainly be nice for all of us to have the possibility to embed youtube, vimeo (etc) videos directly in our posts.

Same goes for images in different formats, of course.

Thanks again.

Like this?

If you have a YouTube video that you like, take the URL like this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KVRywwzOSVY

Take out the video ID (in this case it's KVRywwzOSVY), and put it in a youtube tag:

Code: Select all

Similar for vimeo - just use the tag:

Code: Select all

[vimeo]VideoID[/vimeo]

EXACTLY like that. :-)

Oh, and the image embedding of course already works as it should.

Yes, I like the new forum too. There's just one thing...

Lost marble, in the announcement you mentioned there's a new spam button on each posting. Well, there are 4 new spam posts in the bug discussions, but I can't find the button.

I believe the spam reporting button is located right in front of the "quote" button. Its the "!" inside the triangle button.

BTW, the forum looks great! Is there now more span prevention in place?

While I like the new look, I think more stringent measures will be needed to cut down the spam. I believe the best course would to be to have the moderators authenticate new members before they're allowed to post. As the moderators are the ones removing the spam, it would be just logical for them to verify new members and there are not that many per day that are legitimate. Just a thought. 8)

Agreed. I put some more anti-spam measures in last night. We might see some spam in the next few days from users/bots that signed up before I activated the new features. If they already have accounts they can still post until we identify and ban them. But after that I expect the spam to go down quite a bit.

On my browser(s) the unread messages icon is red. A little too subtle for me. I couldn't find a control to change it. I'd appreciate it if it was more 'blatant'. Also, what if you're red/green colorblind? I don't know if you could tell the difference between read and non-read discussions at all. (R / G colorblind affects a lot of people-certainly some of the members around here would be in that category?)

thanks.

+1. If you could just give the "unread" icon a fill?

Good work - I agree with the above.
Also, I find it quite jarring that the profile pictures are on the right side - it makes it difficult to see who wrote what until you flick your eyes all the way over which breaks the reading flow... is it possible to move it back left, or at least have a setting in user profiles to do this? that would be great!
Love the new video embed features, will go through some of my posts and change the code :)

Just wondering....in the old forum "view posts since last visit" was an invaluable tool for me. Is there an equivalent button on this new look forum?

Cheers

If you look at the top of the board, you'll see the options. I've got a bookmark on the unread posts option so when I log in, I see only new posts since my last visit.

I'm just back from my vacations and get this surprise. Thank you very much for the upgrade, it's fantastic to start the real life again with this kind of news :)
