Style menu

Post by saltydog »

Is there a tutorial that you know of that deals just with the style menu on Anime Studio Pro 7? What each button does, when you use what. I am having trouble using it. If I delete a style I have created, the program crashes. I am not always successful applying a style to the selected shape.

On another subject, the shape doesn't seem to hold when I make part of the line invisible.

I would appreciate your help. Thx!

Hi saltydog,
can you write down a recipe to exactly reproduce the problem?

I remember have this bug before but I think it was solved in AS7.

Using the style window

Post by saltydog »

This, in detail, is what I have been doing. Maybe you can see where I am going wrong. It's LONG. But, I have been trying for days to understand this. I am familiar with Corel draw, so I am not new to drawing programs, just this one.

import girl sketc

New vector layer. Name head. Draw Head. Select Head. Press Create Shape

In style menu, press style button at top, press new, name head. Fill

color window, oth the fill square at the left and the square to hte

right of the color square is checked.

Press "Enter."

Head is filled. SO FAR SO GOOD

Create bone layer. Move Head into bone layer. Name "Front"

Create new vector layer in "Front" Bone layer. Name "Back Hair"
Automotically filled with "Head" color, which is pink, even though

the style window shows a white fill and a black stroke.

Even though it looks like the shape is already "created," because the

form is filled with the checker board, I deselect it, go back to the

select button, select it all, and the "select shape" button doesn't

work, but the "create shape button does."

Then I go to the "styles" window. The new style is named back hair.

After typing in "1" for stroke, I hit the space bar, and a get an ping

sound, and nothing happens. If I move the style window over a bit,

then it works.

BTW, every time a create a new vector layer, the "file" menu drops

down.

OK. New layer. Name "Bangs." Halfway though drawing the bangs, a

new window pops up called Lua Console. What is that?

Before the bangs are finished, the "back hai, on another layer, which

was black, is now pink.

Delete the bangs, delete the style (this time no crash), redraw the

bangs, select the bangs and create shape, then new style, name bangs,

fill in all the spots, click space bar, a warning sound occurs and no

change. Go back to drawing, select, create shape, go to the style

window, and I cannot hit "style 1," (it is grey) to fill the bangs.

Go back to drawing, select bangs, click "create shape," ("select

shape" doesn't do anything) go to style, click Black Hair under "Style

1, and nothing happens.

I haven't been able to repoduce the crash today.

Is there some way to fill these objects without using the style window

if you have "Pro?"

styles are assigned with the two drop down style menus in the fill palette. When a style is applied you can't over-ride it without ticking the box next to fill or stroke. When you apply a style, fill or stroke colour without any fill selected you are setting your DEFAULT colour/style setting so any fill you create after this will have that style applied regardless of you creating a new style while it's selected... this is why back hair is coming up pink.

so, you can create all your styles at the beginning and name them - you don't need to have a fill selected or even any existing points on your canvas. When you create a fill apply the relevant style to it. Try not to start overriding styles unless you know its just a one off, otherwise the whole use of styles is made pointless.
