Need help with actions.

I made a fish with his tail going back and forth, but I made it on the regular timeline. I would like to make that into an action so I can insert it wherever and whenever I want. but I can't figure out if there's any way to do that. Is there anyway to take a segment of animation that is on the main timeline and copy it over to an action's timeline?

Open up the actions window and create a new action. Go to frame 1 and then go up to the actions window and rightclick on the mainline timeframe and choose "Copy" (or some such) and the keys will be copied to your action.

That worked.

Thanks for the help.

As a general rule I always create my actions first on the mainline. The main reason for this is you can add keys for all the layers much easier this way (if you try and do it in an action you MUST be sure that you have switched back to that action, as switching a layer inside an action will reset things back to the mainline).
