I knew about r-click drag...that one is useful but sometimes annoys me because I do it accidentally and don't always catch it immediately...but I didn't know about Animation -> Set Layer Start Time.

Yes, I personally prefer having the import show up at the beginning of the timeline. Previously, I almost always accidentally imported footage to a later frame when I wanted it to start on frame 1 and then had to shift the layer or delete it and start over 'properly'.

I agree, happens to me too. I think the problem is that r-click-drag is used all the time on the timeline to navigate it. Something like shift r-click drag would be better for me.
