It is not a good idea to export them to jpeg because jpeg doesn't support transparency. Better export each image to png with alpha.
To import the images to AS just use the File > Import menu and after you have imported all your images place them inside a bone layer.

This tutorial can be useful.

uploading from Photoshop Elements

Post by cris »

Genete,
Thank you for your reply. The problem is that when I go to Save As, in my Elements 8, I am not given the option of a PNG file. There is Photoshop, Alias PIX, Photoshop eps, PCX, Photoshop 2.0, and a lot of others. But no PNG.
I have copied the script from AS that is supposed to copy the PNG file into AS, but nothing is registering.
File>Import only goes to a list of AI stock pieces.

Will AS work with Photoshop Elements?
thanks

According to this tech note, http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/330/330350.html, PNG is a valid option. If you can't find it under "save as", try for "export" or "export for web".

Yes, I found it under "Save for web." However, even after saving it at PNG, Anime couldn't find it. Under File>Import, it only offers the stock Anime art or movies. The option to import an image or audio file are not available. The PNG file from Photoshop Elements is sitting saved on my desktop, but there is no way to bring it into Anime and work on it as a project.

I'm about to give up on Anime.
thanks

When you import an image in AS, your computer's standard file requester should open so you can browse through all your directories. It is a good idea to create a separate flder for each scene you want to do in AS and put the images and the anme file into it.

The above link at Smith Micro provides a script that can be dropped into Photoshop. Works great for saving files as PNGs and exporting them directly into Anime Studio. Maybe it will work with Photoshop Elements too.
What if?

Here on forum (I don't remember exactly where) someone posted a link to a japanese software which export psd to anime studio without the need of open or have installed photoshop (personally I work with corel photopaint and sai to edit and generate psd files).

It creates an anme file and a folder with all the png images, it even remember the blend layer mode and it's like ten times faster than the official photoshop script.

The only problem is it creates a corrupted anme file which can't be opened on AS. But, wait, it can be solved easyly. I discovered you must open the anme file on notepad or similar and replace all the "," characters for "." then save it and now it's completely functional.
Very easy and fast.

In ASpconv you can even combine two or more psd files in one, add png images and move the layers. I just love this little fast software.

That script doesn't seem to work on Photoshop Elements. Thanks for all the help guys, but I don't thing Anime is going to work with Elements. I've got AS on the 30 day trial and so far I haven't been able to do anything with it. Not able to buy the full Photoshop program so I think I'm stuck.
Thanks again for all your help.

Hi Selgin.
I have tested, it won't create Vector, it is treating PSD files as image layer. ?

It just creates a png file for each layer of the psd. Psd files are not vectorial.
It works just like the "export layers to anime studio" script, but it's faster and you don't need to have photoshop to make it work (you just need some other software to create psd files, as corel photopaint, gimp or sai)

You can always use GIMP, which is free, and will export to any file type you can imagine..it basically does everything Photoshop does.

http://www.gimp.org/

I use it like this:

1) Draw and paint image in Painter (you can also draw in GIMP), keeping elements on separate layers.
2) Export as a .psd file
3) Open .psd in Gimp and one at a time make single layers visible, select the part with an image on it, then save selection as .png to my project folder.

Yes, this is time consuming, and it's why I started embracing (and loving) the drawing tools in Anime Studio.

But it's totally possible, and easy.

If you seem to have lost your file after attempting to export from photoshop to Anome studio you should look in the Anime Studio program (in a folder called Smith --) and look in the folder called Extras, or something like that, it's a long time since I used it.
