Oh please, don't watch this on a simple screen! This is a classic, on par with Disney's Snow White, and should only be watched on 35 mm in a theatre.

I totally agree with Slowtiger here, this is a masterpiece, one of the animated film that really made an impression on me as a child.

I still have an original VHS of it, well worth the download, thanks for the link!

The animation was generally excellent; it had a retro feel that harkened more to 1930 and 1940 than to 1957.

It would have been engrossing prior to 1990, especially because of its affinity for the surreal.

But we've all seen too many stories like this since that time, which makes it very tedious after the shepherdess and chimneysweep elope.

I found it unwatchable after that.
