Anime Studio on Linux

Post by Imago »

Due to my problems with Anime Studio 5.6 and Win ME, I tought to try a Live-cd version of Knoppix with Wine and see if it works fine.
Someone did it already? Some suggestion?

I've tried to run AS 6.0 with wine at ubuntu 9.04. It istalled but it doesn't want to run. There are a few of dll missing. I don't beliebe it would work properly, specially due to the audio and video issues. I configured wine to emulate Windows XP.
Please report any succesfull trial.

I found a version for linux on the Smith Micro website.
Works fine on my Ubuntu 7.10.2 live-cd, but the OS are too slow on booting.
Someone can suggest a distribution a bit faster?

Umm... don't use the live cd mode and actually install it to the hard drive. And if your pc is slow and old, use Xubuntu.

If you're using a live cd it means you're not installing it (because you have windows in the pc?) If you have windows why don't you use the AS windows verision. If you want to have linux why don't just install it before?
7.10 is quite a bit old I think.

The problem is windows itself, ASP 5.6 don't work on my Win ME notebook.
Strangely the version 5.5 works fine...
Installing Win XP on my pc maybe solve the problem but some of my old graphics programs don't work on XP!

Hmmm Win ME...
If you buy a second HD you can for sure install a light weight verison of linux that will run smoothly the AS version you can register.
Then dual booting won't be a problem with Windows ME.

Either 5.6 is using features in Windows that are only in XP and Vista, not ME, or maybe the protection that SmithMicro are using now is incompatible with ME.

Either way, it's not something that is likely to be fixed.

Although if you can find another 10 ME users, that might be enough to have a whole new version especially for you (that is a joke!) :D
