Can't Make Line Width Tool Work

For some reson I can't get the line width tool to work.

I add the points
select them as connected
click create shape button
click line width tool

Nothing happens to line.

Where am I going wrong here?

The Line width tool works after you have created a shape with a line (and fill). Select one point or several points, shoose that tool, and move the cursor horizontally.

I tried your method and that certainly workd as you suggest.

I kinda got thrown after watching this .....
