Upcoming update

Post by Lost Marble »

Hi Anime Studio Users,

I mentioned in another thread that I had been working on some new features to show at Siggraph. In case you weren't there or didn't see the new stuff (I think very few of you did), here's what's going on. We're getting ready a free update with a few features that some of you have been asking for for a long time. I don't have a release date for you yet, but the coding is basically done - we just have some more testing to do. On to the new features:

First, path animation. You can now directly edit the motion path of individual layers. Here's an example of the process:

http://www.lostmarble.com/misc/Siggraph ... ation1.mov

It makes moving along this kind of path a lot easier to do:

http://www.lostmarble.com/misc/Siggraph ... ation2.mov

The next feature is animated layer re-ordering. You will now be able to re-order layers within a group during an animation, so that objects can move in front of and behind each other. Here's an example:

http://www.lostmarble.com/misc/Siggraph ... ering1.mov

During playback, if you watch the Layers palette, you can see exactly what's happening:

Here's another example. Notice how the character's hand goes in front of and behind her head, and in front of and behind her leg:

Finally, we've improved the Image Texture fill effect. The images you use now stick to the object as it animates, warping with the underlying bone structures:

Another example:

You can also use this fill effect on lines to create very textured line effects:

I'll let you know as soon as the update is available.

The layer ordering palette looks spooky! Great updates!
You can't have everything. Where would you put it?

Looks interesting. Did you fix the scripts issue on Mac OSX? I'm using Moho to run scripts because Anime Studio Pro won't; you know the details already, I'm sure.

Could you be more specific? I know there was a problem with scripts that used the File Open dialog - it wouldn't let you actually choose any files on the Mac. This has been fixed. But as far as I know, other scripts run just fine on the Mac. If that's not the case, I definitely want to know and fix it.

LM, that file opening bug is the one I mean. Sounds like you've got that on your list of fixes. It not only made the Bone Audio Wiggle script useless on Mac, but also a few CrashCore scripts, like Save Layer Animation and Load Layer Animation. If the update lets Anime Studio Pro load files properly when those scripts ask for them, I'm good to go. Thanks!

Ha ha!!!

Well Genete... so much for that shape ordering script!

Just kidding!!!! The new layer order animation feature is great but your shape ordering script is still amazing and very useful.

Layer order animation... path animation... better texture fills.... holy cow...

As I read the list I got very light headed and nearly passed out... I feel a little better now but I had to breathe into a paper bag.

;)

Oh wow I hope this update comes soon... I could use that texture fill feature for a hot project right away.

Okay...

I finally watched all the samples...

I did pass out and fall off my chair. The fill effect feature is MIND BLOWING! It opens up a whole new world of possibilities. The fill effects ON STROKES caused all the blood to rush from my head and my hands started shaking.

I really need to get out more.

Some very nice new features. I'm still a Moho user but I'll probably buy the upgrade for this.

Cool new features. Can't wait to try them out.

I can't work out how you did this with just animated layer ordering, or are the top half and bottom half of her torso on separate layers? Would it be hard to extend this feature to shapes?
