How can I draw a simple coloured character ?

Post by marima »

Sorry, I don't speak english very well, and I am trying to understand Moho.
I have no experience of animation. Drawing is not a problem, it's my job (Drawing teacher). Can you help me?
i drew something easy : a little girl whose one eye is hidden by hair.
First I made a group layer "corp"
Then I made vector layers, and set them fron back to front :
1-back hair
2-head/neck
3-one eye
4- the mouth (half hidden by hair)
5- front hair
6 right leg
7-left leg
8-right arm
9- left arm
10- dress
I put them in the group layer.
But now, how can I set the bones and animate them?
The eye and the mouth don't stick to the head...
I do not understand how you do to create a character.
Thank you; my question seems stupid, but it's not so easy when you never learnt those "techniques"(in French)

Hello Marima,
marima wrote:The eye and the mouth don't stick to the head...
Sorry, I only have time for a quick answer at the moment - place the head, eyes, and mouth all in a head group layer under the bones layer, and bind the whole head group layer to the head bone.

Try and read Tutorial 3.4 and the Bone Tools chapter in the manual.

Possibly copy and paste the text into AltaVista Babelfish and choose the translate English to French option.

Regards, Myles.

How can I draw a simple coloured character (next question)

Thank you for answering.
Now, the layers are like that :
the Vector Group "corp" includes 2 groups :
1-Group Head (I want no right eye, because it's a little girl whose face is halh hidden by hair)
-Front Hair
-eye
-mouth
-Head/neck
-Back Hair
2-Group Corp-without-head
-dress (it hides the top of 2 separate arms and 2 separate legs)
-left leg
-right leg
-left arm
-right arm
i think it would be good to bind the head group and the separate members to the dress but I don' know how to do it.

Something else that I don't understand :
Where must I put the bones layers in this panel?
For example : arm bone layer just above vector arm layer, and so on?
Or must I create a general bone layer for the entire vector corp group ,
Excuse my English, I just learnt it at school but never practiced it.

Marima,

try something like this:

Corp (bone layer)
--Head group (group)
----Front Hair (vector, part of group)
----eye (vector, part of group)
----mouth (vector, part of group)
----Head/neck (vector, part of group)
----Back Hair (vector, part of group)
--dress (vector)
--left leg (vector)
--right leg (vector)
--left arm (vector)
--right arm (vector)

Put all the bones in the bone corp layer.

Do not group the legs and arms, because you want the vectors to be controlled directly by the bones. Bind the entire "head group" to the head bone - all the head group will move as one shape.

The bones keep everything together.

Also consider making the neck layer separate from the head.

Consider making a second eye under the front hair - if the hair ever moves or swings aside it will show a quick glimpse of the other eye.

If you need bones to move parts of the head (for example, hair), make the head group a bone layer instead:

Corp (bone layer)
--Head (bone layer)
----Front Hair (vector)
----eye (vector)
----mouth (vector)
----Head/neck (vector)
----Back Hair (vector)
--dress (vector)
--left leg (vector)
--right leg (vector)
--left arm (vector)
--right arm (vector)

Regards, Myles.

Thanks. Finally, I succeeded by myself with an (very) empiric method. But I'm going to try yours now.
