First test with Curvers – Finally flexible cut-out limbs

Post by JoelMayer »

Played around with curvers today for the first time. Bound them to layers and animated this simple arm thing here inspired by Richard Williams' teachings about flexibility obviously.

Quite love the result, feels a lot less mechanic! I loved using curve deformers in Toon Boom already so this is a great addition to Moho.

My problem with rigs was always that i feel it's much harder to exaggerate stuff and get that "punch" that traditional has. With deformers like this mixed with point, warp and bone animation i think there's a lot of potential to get more out of stuff.

Hmm I should play with this too.

But this kind of fbf dynamism is too easy to achieve by just grabing the magnet tool and distorting the vector drawing conveniently. I see many people in general try to animate everything with bones and I feel that misses Moho best and most unique feature: point interpolation.

Very nice and satisfactory animation by the way.
