Freehand Tool Does Not Fill

Post by mgo »

The Freehand Tool does not always create a filled shape. In the video example I am trying to append spikes to an explosion cloud. Sometimes it works, but very often it doesn't. If there is a setting I'm missing I'd be glad to hear about it :)

Hm, just wondering if this is
- an isolated bug (just me)
- by design
- no one using the tool (just me again)

If someone has ideas I'd love to hear them :)

Yeah, when your drawing with Freehand from existing points, it doesn't always work. I think this has always been the case. Suggestion: If you really need to draw from a point and it's failing, try drawing from the other end point instead...it might not work but it might. Otherwise, you need to select the points and just fill it manually using the Create Shape tool. (Optionally, you can use the Paint Bucket but that can create another problem if Moho decides it needs to auto-trace the path.)

What seems to work more consistently is to draw across an edge instead of from a point along that edge. Make sure you have Auto-weld, Trim Start, Trim End, Auto Fill and Auto Stroke enabled. Like so...

Freehand has always been a little quirky. I may use it for simple items and short FBF clips, but I generally avoid it for major artwork and prefer to use Add Point instead.

Hopefully, we'll see an improved Freehand before too long.

I think its about first and end point and some other things..
1 .There should be no other point between the first and last point.
2 . no fill if there is no other point between the intersection points.
I hope I was able to explain well.

Thanks for posting your findings! That explains some of this behavior more clearly.

I really hope so! Probably my number one request along with better strokes.

I agree, I'd like to see the Freehand vector drawing get improvements or be replaced with a better freehand drawing tool before we get more new features in Moho.

I'd love to see bitmap drawing return in a more usable form too, but IMO vector drawing is almost ready right now, and it would be immediately useful to me for FBF animations that needs to match my puppet-rigged vector animations.

software performance and support all cpu cores in the viewport is very necessary too.

moho uses just 1 core.
