mesh jumping error

Post by amanandink »

hey has anyone seen this error in meshes before? it looks normal on fr0 but on fr 1 point from the vector layers attached to the mesh jump to 0,0

My first guess would be some smart bone influence, but it's hard to know from a screenshot.

Yes, it's pretty hard to tell from a random frame. Can you also post an image of the setup frame so we know what it looks like in its rest state?

My guess is that you need a larger mesh with more points. When using a mesh, an image's deformation is influenced by points, not the shapes or lines between the points. I suggest adding at least two more points to hold those gray lines in place. For more precise control, you should have points along all the lines.

Maybe more like this?

Notice how the points follow the lines in the muzzle. Naturally, the points layout should depend on what parts of the drawing you wish to animate and how precisely you need to deform them.

hey guys, yeah this has me totally stumped, I tried a new mesh Dennis with what you suggested, its not working either. I have uploaded a file so you can see the effect in action

Man, that was one hell of a head scratcher.

It seems there's some sort of limit on how small the smart mesh can be relative to the layer scale. If you scale the smart mesh points up, on frame zero, until the art quits jumping on frame one, you can then scale the smart mesh layer down to the original size.

Glad I could help. It took the better part of yesterday to figure it out.

I'm not sure. It might be something to file under "limitation" as layer scale and smart mesh resolution may be bound together in some way under the hood.

Probably couldn't hurt to report it. I'll go do that (39904).
