Posting YouTube videos to this forum, seems to be broken

Post by SpaceBoy64 »

I have noticed that I can no longer successfully post YouTube videos in messages here. I've tried all kinds of ways. I've noticed previous posts by other people containing YouTube videos no longer work.

Also, on posting photos, where is the best place to put photos to link to here? Photobucket no longer works.

Thanks,
Don

For pictures, there's an "Upload to TinyPic" tab below where you type your post that usually works.
For YouTube videos, you want to put the part after "watch?v=" between the tags ()

Yeah, neither works for me. Other peoples posts don't work either. I saw the "Upload to TinyPic", but it does nothing. Browser issues?

I get TinyPic problems occasionally. Usually, it's a server issue on TinyPic's side. If I wait, it will start working again. If I can't wait, I just use a different image hosting service and paste the link here.

I haven't had problems with embedding YouTube or Vimeo. In fact, I posted an embedded Vimeo movie this morning and it worked fine. Any errors I run into typically has to do with formatting. If you hover over the button, a tooltip for the expected format appears. In the Vimeo example this morning, I had to enter only the number ID part of the movie, and leave out the rest of actual Vimeo URL. I believe this is how YouTube works too. You also need to be sure proper security options are set for the movie--this would be set at your Vimeo or YouTube account.

For some reason, it's not working for me. I mean, other peoples' posts that apparently are formatted correctly, don't show up.
So, I'm trying this on the Chrome browser. I usually use Firefox.

I've formatted this both with the whole URL, which used to work, and with only the video ID number.

Tell me if you see this YouTube video. It's not showing up when I click Preview.
I just posted this, and all I see is a blank space, no video.
What browser are you using?

Thanks,
Don

Okay, it seems both browsers are blocking content because it is saying it is an "unsafe" script, and the site is not secure.

https://support.google.com/chrome/answe ... =1#content

https://developers.google.com/web/funda ... est_review

I'm not sure what is wrong exactly, but I had to give the browser special permission to load "insecure content".
Both Chrome and Firefox do this.
"Firefox protects you from attacks by blocking potentially harmful, insecure content on web pages that are supposed to be secure."
When I gave it this permission, the Tinypic upload box is now visible too.

Unblock mixed content

Unblocking insecure elements is not recommended, but can be done if necessary:

Click the lock icon in the address bar.
Click the arrow on the Control Center:

Click Disable protection for now.

Your embedded video above works, so it must be a browser issue.

That's pretty weird. I generally use Chrome at work and FireFox at home, and it works fine on either browser.

I don't know what the 'unsafe script' business is. I've never seen that when posting embedded video links to this forum. Could it be a third party script blocker that's doing this?

I think it's because Firefox warned me that the site was not secure and my password could be intercepted by hackers when I started to log in, so I typed in https://www.lostmarble.com/forum/ instead of just http://www.lostmarble.com/forum/. That https: told it to only let through secure stuff. It didn't occur to me that YouTube videos would not be secure. It's probably something about the code that doesn't allow it to be secured. I'm not web designer, so that's beyond me.

Anyway, case solved. Thanks.
