Thanks for posting, the roadmap looks interesting indeed. I hope this will spur Moho to get better instead of squashing it.

That grease pencil car is nice -- how did you get that 3D effect?
You can't have everything. Where would you put it?

Hey jahnocli,

I got that 3d effect on the car by using Grease Pencil, which is the "photoshop" section of Blender. You can draw and paint, but in 3 dimensions. See below:

Here is the blender file (version 2.79):

You can also add bones to grease pencil drawings and animate them, kinda like a 3d version of Moho.

Thanks for the quick response and file -- I didn't know you could draw in 3D like that. It's given me some ideas...

I've been playing around with Blender to find ways to make it work with 2d artwork/animation, possibly for a Moho to Blender workflow. 3d in 2d animation has generally been an eyesore, with few exceptions, but as software evolves that will definitely change. Right now, Blender has a few 2d friendly features that can enhance Moho artwork: lighting effects, high quality depth of field, 3d particle system(with proper z depth), the ability to "paste" 2d artwork/animation on 3d objects(allowing for more complex 2d style backgrounds/props to avoid the 2d "cutout" style look), a built in drawing and painting app, video editor, compositor, 3d bones, various special effects and motion graphics stuff, and a lot more that I haven't looked at as I've only been using Blender for about 2 weeks, tho it's already removed several potential feature requests that I might have had for Moho. So, yay!

Eventually I may make a Blender video tutorial aimed at 2d artists.

Some experiments:

Looking forward to the tutorials! There are plenty of stunning demonstrations of Grease Pencil and few tutorials.

YES!
Some tutorials of using 2d in Blender would be great.

Lots of development going on now that the first 2d animation short using solely GP Tools is in production.

Multi-frame editing, VFX modifiers, other new modifiers,... It's looking to be a very exciting release.

This really looks fascinating, Herbert, but a different world from AS/Moho. The hero with the quick draw (with his weapon) seemed to be a 3D character with a 2D look. I suppose the way to understand this stuff would be to get to know Blender as a 3D program first. Thanks for keeping us informed.
