How to embed Videos and attach Images to the forum

Attaching Images
Previously, you had to upload your picture to some website and then embed a link to it. You can still do that, but if you want a quick and easy way to attach an image, there's an "Upload to TinyPic" button on the page where you type a new post.

Let's try it right now...

If your image is large, it helps to resize it to "Message Board" size - the TinyPic uploader can do this for you automatically.

Embedding YouTube and Vimeo videos
You can also now embed YouTube and Vimeo videos directly into your posts. At the top of the post editor are buttons for text formatting (those have always been there) - now there are two new buttons for Vimeo and YouTube.

If you have the URL to a YouTube video, say like this:

Code: Select all

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KVRywwzOSVY
Take the video ID (in this case KVRywwzOSVY) and put it inside a youtube tag like this:

Code: Select all

And here's what you get:

Vimeo works in a very similar way. Let's say you have this Vimeo URL:

Code: Select all

http://vimeo.com/36436964
This video ID is 36436964, and you would embed it in a post like this:

Code: Select all

[vimeo]36436964[/vimeo]
That's all there is to it!

Hi Selgin,

I was wondering if there was a way to simply export a single image of say "a rigged character" made in AS. Is it possible to do this as a PNG, Jpeg or some other format like a vector Adobe illustrator file (.ai) to upload? The sea-snail-octopus-like creature image you used as an example in this thread, was that done in AS and then exported as a static image that you then uploaded?

Thanks,

LY

When you do a render of a single frame using Ctrl + R, you can then save that render as an image file.

Thanks Danimal,

With that single frame render it's in a .mov format right? does that get converted to a different image file or just get uploaded in the.mov as is?

Thanks

You should be able to save it in a couple different image formats or have it copied to the clipboard to open in an image editor.

Ctrl + R, then click the Save As button. Easy as pie. Easier maybe, pie gives it up pretty quickly.

That pretty much sums it up :D I'm still using debut 6 so the interface is a little different, but I found the option.

Thanks a million!!!

I want to test an old image of me in a screenshot of a videogame. I've never tried it before. I hope you don't mind.

Ha! That graphic is from "Exile" but I have Riven too. I chose it because the walkway looks dangerously high.

Exile, yes! Those games were brilliant. So underrated.

I ignored PhotoShop after I discovered AS. Animation has a greater potential, I think.

Hey Victor, somehow I can't see embedded YouTube videos. For example, after you write "And here's what you get:" in your initial post of this thread, I just see empty space. Both in Chrome and Internet Explorer. Why could that be? Thanks!

What happened to the Tinypic uploader? It's no longer there.

The forum changed software recently and we lost the 'built-in' TinyPic feature. However, you can still upload directly to Tiny Pic (or Imgur, or whatever,) and then just copy/paste the embed code to your post here. If you hover over the Insert Image button in the Post A Reply window, it shows you the required format, and most image hosting sites will provide the link in this format. (It's usually the one listed for forums.)

Alternatively, you can host the image yourself via DropBox, Google, etc., and use the same link format. (I need to confirm that but I'm almost certain it works.)

I usually use TinyPic or imgur and there are many others to choose from.

TBH, the 'built-in' TinyPic option was convenient when it worked but it seemed to go down a lot. (That might have been more a Tiny Pic issue than a forum issue.)
