Hi, I'm glad you like the tutorial.
Actually, you can animate more complex flags, but I wanted yo keep the tutorial as simple as possible.
On a recent animation I did this flags:
The important thing here is to group the flag in vertical segments. In the tutorial it was very simplified, each horizontal line of the flag had the same amount of points in parallel.
For complex flags, you need to imagine that sections, like this

Greetings, played around all day with the Flag waving exercise, i'm a newjack at Animation and as i see now ,I lack many of the basic skills. The first problem i encountered was finding a flag that i could put onto the stage that did'nt fall apart or separate when i tried to apply your Tutorial. But i may be on the right track now.Watching tutorials is good but u need to have a specific project or problem for them to make any sense. To all u people who take the time to make Tutorials, thank you , still plodding along, Rathahonni

Flag waving exercise.
Greetings,i'm still playing with flag waving exercise,When importing the image of a flag to the stage,no problem to get the image, but i can't actually make it workable, when i add points the points are on their own Layer and i can't move any part of the original flag image, the tracing tool seems to be useless. The tutorial is a good starting point but a lot is lacking for for us beginners. The only way i was able to get a workable flag of stripes was to make my own,not always possible with more difficult flags, please help.
You can't point animate an image. You need to warp with bones instead.
I've made a setup for simple use: http://www.slowtiger.de/examples/flag_image.zip (v5.6)
[EDIT] I'm so stupid: totally forgot the instructions!
To animate this bunch of bones, you only touch the topmost row of horizontal bones, with the rotate bones tool. They control everything else.
