question about expansion value less than 1( in layer setting

Post by Egyptianboy »

Hi, everybody :D
is there any tips about getting the expansion value ( in layer setting
\ layer shadow ) less than 1 :?: you know , talking about adding an outline to the whole character for fixing bad shapes stroke lines .
but the value ( expansion : 1 ) is too thick for some characters
maybe there is a trick to have a thin looking line surrounding my character for good looking animation ?!!
any tip ?!! thanks

The first thing that occurs to me is to start out with twice the reolution you need, and then halve that resolution for output (there is even a simple check box in Preferences when you output an animation...
You can't have everything. Where would you put it?

the only thing less than 1 pixel is 0 pixels (they are whole numbers!)

try this:

draw the shapes larger than you want in the final work and use "thick" lines and shadows.
then scale the layer to be smaller (the size you want) and set the (layer properties) "scale compensation" check box off. (it's on by deafult).
you need to render to see the effect.

look at http://www.mediafire.com/?6l7fy5wfcnw9b11

this from the (ASP7) manual:
Scale compensation: When this box is checked (as it is by
default), and you scale an entire layer larger or smaller, the lines in
the final rendered output will automatically get thicker or thinner
so that they retain their relative weight in the overall image. Also,
layer effects like blurs and shadows will become larger or smaller to
match the scale of the layer.

a new feature in AS8 is layer outline.
I may be off on what you are trying to achieve, but on the bone layer you can open the layer settings and select outline and specify a color and size. This will put an outline around the set of layers within the bone group.
