Post your Setup!!!

Post by sour_jax »

So I would like to see how everyone's studios are setup. An example is:

iMac
AS Pro 7
A Wacom Tablet (still trying to decide which one will be best for my budget and end result)
Audacity (For audio)
Blender (for some effects)

Note: I don't have this setup but I am aiming for this.

So what is you setup? Is a Mac better than Windows? Linux? Is a Wacom tablet the best option? How much do you use secondary programs such as audacity and/or blender? Am I missing something that would be considered essential or very useful?

Ready, Set, Post!!!!!

Nothing is always "better". Certain tools are best for a certain purpose, but wil suck on something else. Usually I don't do anything in just one program.
Hardware:
- Mac PPC G5
- Cintiq 21
- Epson Scanner
Animation:
- Anime Studio
- TVPAint
- Flash
Illustration:
- Photoshop
- Illustrator
- Indesign
- StreamLine
Video:
- iMovie
- FinalCut Express
Sound:
- Audacity
- Logic
And this is how it looks like:

Not many:
Richard Williams: The Animator's Survival Kit
Nancy Beiman: Animated Performance
Thomas/Johnston: The Illusion of Life
Halas/Bachelor: Timing for Animation (only xeroxed)
Russett/Starr: Experimental Animation (lost, somewone borrowed it)
Maureen Furniss: Art in Motion: Animation Aesthetics (ditto)
and of course books by/about Chuck Jones, Ralph Bakshi, the Pink Panther, Cartoon Modern, Paul Grimault, the Zagreb Studio, and so on. Not really much, less than 30 titles.

I imagine there are some other literature there too. Could you list some of your miscellaneous favourites, slowtiger? I'm a fan of big libraries and would be very nice to know your preferences.

PD: I will post a picture of my space soon (it's not much interesting, anyway), right now I'm far of home and office.

Hardware:
Dell 530S with Vista 32Bit
hp scanner & point n shoot for larger items
Casio keyboard
Genius Mousepen 8x6 (but I'm saving for www.tabletmod.com )
I ordered a 1GB video card that I hope helps AS render time.

Software:
ASPro 5.6-7.0
Adobe Production Suite CS5 (but I only know Photoshop and After Effects)
Blender 2.49 still (haven't played with 2.5 yet)
FLStudio 9 Producer

Thanks for posting these. It really shows that the tools are secondary to motivation.
@SlowTiger with all those computers do you create on one and render with the others?
@sbtamu great program list.

So only two MACs in all of LostMarbledom?

@vagabond: No, I only have one work machine right now. When it renders, I prepare coffee. (I had a second G5, but when the first died, the second became the replacement.)

@selgin: sorry, that would be too long and OT here. Overall it's about 3000 books (and comics), but could you believe that I only read 2 new books last year?

Yes, sorry for the off topic. I planned to say sorry before on my other comment, but I forgot to write it. I hope maybe some time on another miscellaneous thread we could talk about your and other's books

I need a bigger desk. My left monitor is only in portrait mode because I'm out of space.

Image

The laptop in the foreground is a tablet pc where I do all my drawing stuff (and everything else when I'm on the go).

Besides Anime Studio Pro I use :
Edius for editing
After Effects for compositing
Audition for sound editing/mixing
Reason for music
EDIT: And Dr Pepper for sugar addiction
