Extreme zooms and pans

Post by slowtiger »

Since I'm doing this stuff right now, here's a nifty little trick:

You know how hard it is to zoom in extremely close to some object while doing a pan at the same time. The camera tool produces strange curves, so I don't use it for that. Instead I put all layers into a top group layer, set the origin point to where I want to center the zoom, and create the pan/zoom combi.

Sometimes this doesn't give me enough control, so I put that top group into another group, and use one for X movements only, the other for Y movements only.

But what if I have 2 objects of attention in a scene with extreme zoom ins and outs? Guess what: I just repeat the described process, only to set the origin point for the second object to the second set of group layers. I start with the first zoom and pan with the bottom group layers, then leave that alone and do the second zoom/pan with the top layer group.

The first part, initial approach, is quite clear but how did you avoid two origins to "collide"?
Which origin is zoom following now? It`s still just one camera, right?

I don't move the camera at all - only the artwork.

I`m aware of it, but I thought that two origins (one for each OoAtt) would "collide" / produce distortion. Obviously, they`re not.

Since each layer has its own origin, there never is any conflict.
