Non-Destructive Bone Scale

Post by KuzKuz »

Here's my next video. A little trick how to scale bones preserving the joints. The video is in Russian, but English subtitles are available.

That's a cool trick, KuzKuz!

I actually needed something like that yesterday and decided I could live with the slight distortion I was seeing. It's good to know I might not have to now. :)

I've been doing that with vectors for ages, but great idea to expand it to images. Nice work.

Yes, it's a good trick. The only thing to note is that adding those extra 'hold' bones will break the IK chain.

Should be ok if you enable Ignored By IK for those bones, shouldn't it? I use this option all the time for holder bones at the elbows or other 'accessory' bones, and IK is maintained.

Edit: Oh, wait. Will have to try it but I think I see what you mean.

I should have mentioned that I noticed this when I tried this technique in earlier versions of ASP. Of course, Moho has the "Ignored By IK" option and that seems to solve this problem.

Oh, good. I had wondered if the parenting might interrupt IK because the bones were in-line with the chain but that probably doesn't make sense now that I'm thinking about it. (It's late here.) :)

yeah -- plus if you use pin bones rather than regular bones on the ends you get "ignored by IK" automatically.

it's also possible in some situations to use bone strengths rather than point binding -- e.g. region-bind the points on the ends in the pin bones' areas of influence

Very helpful - thank you!
You can't have everything. Where would you put it?
