Animation challenge: your best waves in AS

Post by braj »

I thought it might be fun and educational if users could post their attempts to do common animations in AS, starting with waves and water. I'll try working on this tonight, though my attempt will be pretty poor :) but that's the point, to see a variety of techniques so noobs like me can get some education and inspiration. So, please post something and explain your work :)

Here is a quick simple wave I made. It is three layers. The bottom layer is two rectangles that make up the sand and the ocean (this layer is static). The second layer is a rectangle filled with a dark blue gradient that makes up the base of the wave. The top layer is the white top of the wave (also a gradient to help it blend into the wave). The animation is all point animated to create a more toon-looking version of the ocean wave I found on Youtube. When ever I don't want a part to be seen I turn off layers or fade the alpha which helps keep it very simple.
The most important thing to do is keep it simple. Do not make complicated animations, make simple animations that look complicated. I tried to add in some water sparkles but that would have made more work than value to the animation.
Here's the AS file so you can take a look.
