Manual image tracing (AAWTXV)

Post by Asterix »

I hope I can help someone with my technique. I draw everything by hand. In
I had struggle alot about it, but It happen when I try to a character I want to draw the whole thing in one big shape, the best I can say is to make shape by shape. Ex the hand.

Advantages is that it create low dots count => faster rendering. And easyer to rigg and animate.
You will also save alot of time creating shape.

Here is how I do.

Make a draw
scan it.
Put it as a layer (image) - pro 7 have a special import called tracing image. I can't tell for 8 pro. But I know 8 debut dose not have it.
Create about 25 vector layers (you can create yourselve a temple you reuse with those layers named)
Go back to the main layer - where the image is.

AAWTXV is the name of the shortcut I use.

A - add point tool. I create the shape with it. Have auto-weld checked. Or weld it manualy.
* I hope you get the shape filled. If not restart until you get a shape filled.
A - again, to adjust the shape if needed.
W - When the shaoe is created W asjust the width of the stroke.
You might want to use (H) to hide some part of the shape. It's a good time to do it.
T- Translate, click on the shape (Do not use select shape tool)
Ctrl+X
Go on the layer of the same name.
Ctrl+V paste it.
Move on to the next part. AAWTXV etc...

Now your ready to rigg.
