Nesquik contest entry (my UPA style toon)

Post by jhbmw007 »

Well, I was trying for a UPA style cartoon but I'm not sure what the animation will end up looking like. Can I finish this animation by Friday? Stay tuned to find out! lol

I think they also call it "cartoon modern" but it's a form of limited animation- I thought it might suit well for AS.

Certainly looks like a UPA cartoon. Great style. One of my favourite 'animations' (not much animation in it to be honest) is UPA's film of Poe's 'The Tell Tale Heart'. Gerald McBoing Boing is great too.

Look forward to seeing your animation.

Does anyone remember that UPA feature cartoon Aladin's Lamp where Mr. McGoo was the uncle of Aladin? It would have been released over fourty years ago. (Suddenly I feel old.)

Pretty cool animation :) I liked the silhouette on the kid tumbling down the stairs. Very creative. Good camera shots, too.

BonAp - You really got to look hard for the bunny- he's a sneaky little bastard! And I don't like ads either- but I figure doing these contests is a good way to build my portfolio plus have a shot at winning a couple. hopefully I will win this contest and then I can afford to fund my own project!

Arkaos - Thanks. Although it was more laziness than creativity- I started animating him down a couple stairs moving all his limbs manually and realized it was going to take forever. So I duplicated the layer, added bone dynamics and a mask and let AS do the work for me!

What's unfortunate is that the whole cartoon has a really cool gritty look to the backgrounds but you can't see it on youtube due to the compression.

Voting hasn't started yet- actually I don't even know if I'm going to make it as a finalist. I just asked people to vote at the end of the video just in case, and I'll update the description with a link to the vote page.
