Hello there,

I made a short film/music video called The Climb which I will premiere on YouTube tomorrow, March 12 at 3:00 pm. Hope to see you there, but if you can't make it to the premiere, you can watch it any time after that. Here is the link:

Hi Joe. First let me say I enjoyed you video.
I am curious about two things.
The first is your walk cycle how did you achieve it. There is no sliding. Which I am still struggling with.
Also how did you do the mountains he is climbing. They look continuous are they?
If you don't mind taking the time I would appreciate the enlightenment on these two things.
I thank you for the time involved in advance.
Bob

Hi Bob,

Thank you for watching, I am glad you enjoyed it.

To answer your question is that I didn't use a walk cycle in the sense that it is not a repeating loop or a repeating cycle. It was pretty much painstakingly done step by step, one step at a time with lots of keyframes over the length of the entire distance. No shortcuts. My advice to you would be to just start doing it until you get a feel for it. Things will be messy at first but eventually, patterns and logic will start to emerge and you'll start getting the hang of it. However, nothing is automatic. It's a manual process and everyone develops their own approach. How did you rig your character?

The second answer is yes it is continuous, however, it didn't need to be. It could have easily been comprised of many different shapes.

This is your uphill climb ;)

Joe.

Thank you Joe.
Here is a sample of one of my rigs. Not a walking pose but an example of my rigs.

As to the Background is it a huge png file?
Or in other words how was it made?
At 72 years old I am a fellow climber (literal and figuratively } with a long history of the up-hill struggle. and yes the view is worth the climb.

Hi Bob,

The background and mountains are comprised of large shapes made out of splines.

Rig looks okay. Are those target bones down there at the bottom of the feet?

Joe.

I suggest you use target bones for the feet.
