Dueling Memos (Fast turnaround current-event cartoon)

Devin Nunes and Adam Schiff's memos have a banjo duel.

Here is a cartoon I made after the Adam Schiff memo was released Friday. It was a little experiment in how fast can I make a cartoon about current events and can I upload a cartoon about a breaking news story while it's still breaking new. I was able to upload it to Youtube about an hour after I saw the news about the memo release. I wanted to post it here with a little explanation of how I did it.

First, I did not make the whole cartoon in an hour. Because this has been in the news for the last three weeks I had time to prepare everything earlier. I draw everything and animated it last weekend. The memos body/letter part is an photoshop file so I could create a test memo and animate them and then when the real memo was released I could quickly replace it with the real memo.

Real Nunes memo and temp Schiff memo that's body was replaced later.

Rendering out 1560 frames at 3840x2160 would take 2.5 hours which was too long so I rendered out the scene with the temp memo before hand and then when it was time to render the real memo I turned off all the other layers and only rendered the new memo. This cut the render time down to 30 minutes. I then used Adobe Premiere to overlay the two image sequence together for the final video. The premiere project was also edited earlier so all I had to do was right click on the test image sequence and click "Replace footage" and replace it with the new image sequence.

In the end, It took about 5 minutes to get the new memo text on the memo's body, 30 minutes to render the image sequence out of Moho, 5 minutes to replace the image sequence in Premiere, 15 minutes to render out of Premiere, and 10 minutes to upload to Youtube.

If anyone has any tips, tricks, or hacks to turnaround animation fast and are willing to share your secrets, I'd love to hear them.
