Travis Bickle and Akira- Learning Anime Studio Pro

Post by Luke Marcatili »

Hi all,

I've recently purchased a copy of Anime Studio Pro 11 and starting to learn my way around it. I thought it might be good to share some of my results and get some feedback and advice on making improvements.

This was my first real attempt at a head turn. I also wanted to see how 'realistic' i could get with gradients, brushes and soft edges. I struggled with the lip-sync a bit using smartbones for each phoneme... ended up being a LOT of keyframes and bezier curves to keep track of and the end result is pretty clunky. For some reason my Up/Down Head Tilt smart bone seemed to detach the eyes, so they didn't animate with the rest of the head tilt.

For this one I used the model sheet for Kaneda from Akira to see how close to a professional level animated character I could get. I'm also using Smart Bones to animate the clothing around his joints (shoulders, elbows, hips, knees, toes) and, save for some cleaning up I'm pretty happy with how that's turned out so far.
