"Dead Engine" a new animated short

Post by Sc0tt »

A few of us threw this short together in our free time. It took about a year or so to do it in total. It's been done for about a month and the plan is to submit it to about 2 animation festivals each month.

I animated the characters in Anime Studio Pro. I think Logic was used for the composing. Photoshop, Lightwave, Blender (the A-bomb) and AE were used for the rest. The process was a lot of fun. The short evolved quite a bit. Initially the engine was going to be a simple glowing rock, but Brian took it to a new level be designing and installing the supercharged engine that you see here. Oh....there's a spinning pinwheel tucked away in the engine...

It's about a small martian that gets a flat tire, then experiences engine trouble while exploring space. He calls for a tow truck to help out and things don't go as planned.

Thanks for checking this out.

Thanks. We had a lot of fun putting this together. I used ASP for the character animation. The tow truck driver's face texture is a actually from a photograph I had taken of the furnace in our basement.

Mostly Lightwave and AfterEffects. Brian has posted the video on a Lightwave forum he checks out.

Nice work. I've been seeing some of the animation presented here and I'm noticing a lot of great timing/comedic timing. This one as well.

I am amazed at the quality of work that was put into this animation project... professionally done!!!! guys. we all know that animation isn't easy,, it's tedious, frustrating at times, time consumming, costant re-doing mistakes spotted after completetion.. and you were right about the design of that engine!!!! WOW!!!!! Viewing work of this level always inspires me to do better when I create my animation projects!
YOU GUYS ROCK, BABY!!! PEACE OUT!
Regards,
Mr.Chris

Thanks for your positive comments. Animation is quite the process. Working with really talented artists raises the bar for everyone. It's fun going through the different phases and keeping the doors open for great ideas that pop up on the fly'. You can always count on a "fresh eye" to point out obvious mistakes that get missed along the way. It's easy to get too close to the forest to miss the trees.
