I'm buying his 10 DVD set for only 89.95! What a steal!

Can't wait to watch such favorite episodes as; Silencing the Gossip Queen, Conquring the Wrath of Rage, and of course Shattering the Bonds of Disobedience.

Can you imagine...

"Ok children do you know what Original sin is? Yes thats right you are all born as sinners and only through Bibleman will you ever hope to escape eternal torment"

Companies are always looking for potential markets. If a broad audience doesn't work try a niche market. Religious groups tend to be loyal and not too critical towards the product. Just put some religious content in your product and your practically critic-proof because criticising a religious product is almost equal to criticise the religion itself. I haven't seen anything other than trailers but at least Bibleman attempts to entertain while brainwas... ehm EDUCATING their audience...

There's a thriving Mormon movie production these days, Mel Gibson got into the religious action with his "splatter" movie and so on. It's part conviction and part greed, the problem is the supposed conviction makes them immune to any kind of negative remarks.

But back to the original topic, the animation wasn't very good and the character design used very different and non-complimenting styles, but children just need colorful images and a compelling story. The trailer however is very sloppily made and doesn't convey any sense of good storytelling. Usually the trailer uses the best material to reel you in, this one will do the opposite, only the die hard Christians will be interested and everyone else will steer away.

You see, it's possibile to discuss religious themed animation without either offending nor defending any religious belief or lack thereof! But in my opinion if you want entertain and educate children at the same time you don't need to resort to blatant religious icons, look at the Pixar movies. Great entertainment, awesome visuals and a positive message without any preaching or sugar coated BS. Just watch Toy Story again and see how it should be done.

Seems like we've got a bit of a double standard when we complain about this, but not about South Park, which doesn't teach anyone anything good (except that if you satirize you can say anything you want), AND is crap animation (I know, they're doing the "cut out" style on purpose).

I mean, hey, I think South Park is brilliant too, but isn't it just the flip side of Baby Angels?

Just stirring the pot,

Hmmm -- the thing about South Park is, it has narrative with 'bite', and a bit of attitude which makes it compelling, despite the crap animation. I don't see those qualities in "Baby Angels...", I only see the crap animation.
You can't have everything. Where would you put it?

South Park has a simple but deliberate style. All elements are drawn in the same way, all characters and background objects fit in with each other. And the timing of the dialogue and animation is well thought out. I like it as a casual viewer, I'm not a real fan but I can see their vision is very clear. The preview for this DVD is not like that. Things move when they are not supposed to, characters are just pasted together and there's no sign of creativity in the storytelling. I'm not saying the overall product isn't good, but the demo material doesn't show much quality. I don't think Comedy Central will be banging at their door anytime soon...

And in relation to childrens' entertainment, take look at Kermit the Frog (don't worry, I'll wait). See how much emotion a bend carboard plate, green fabric and two pingpong balls can communicate. A simple design is actually harder than intricate characters, in a simple model the flaws will be apparent immediately.

Back to Bibleman for a second.

Now I'm not sure, but I think Bibleman was the best friend of "Charles in Charge" I seem to remember him on the Conan O'Brian show many years ago.

"Charles in Charge of My days and my nights,"
"Bible Man In charge of my wrongs and my rights!"

edit:just checked IMDB, and it's true!

It's funny that people started mentioned south park here, because the first thing I thought when i watched the babyangels trailer was how much it reminded me of a a south park take off, even down to the cheesy soundtrack.

Hi, I'm new to these forums, so I don't know if you have anyrules about replying to posts this old. If so, apologies in advance.

In regards to this project, I'm not so sure why some people seem so surprised by the fact that this guy is selling a DVD of it.
Many people here seem to base their opinion of it from an adult point of view, when the main target audience is blatantly young children (tots even) who won't have so many qualms about how the wings are animated, etc.
Some people have insinuated that this DVD is tantemount to brainwashing, yet I've seen nothing in that trailer that suggests this is so.
If the DVD does indeed serve to indoctrinate children it is unlikely to do this on it's own, and would really require such an intention on the part of the parents. A "brainwashing" argument could be made for almost any piece of media, and I don't really think this piece's percieved brainwashing effects, if you wish to call it that, really holds much relevance in this thread.

Bottom line, the target audience is there. Show a good trailer of such a project to a big church with a Sunday school u could make muchos dalla!!!!! His selling it on DVD seems to have almost offended some people, but like some other people have suggested, the sales are what matters, rather than those who won't buy it.

However, I gotta say the trailer DOES look terrible. The editing is bad, the whole thing really didn't give the viewer a proper chance to take in very much, and I think that makes it somewhat difficult for parents to judge the suitability of the video for thier little christian/non christain kiddies - both in terms of its technical quality, and how strongly it may or may not push teach chrsitain values.
Lets not forget that while kids are impressionable, they still have an opinion about what they do and don't like (huge money making industries are based around these decisions) - so upping technical quality can only help you at this point. Better visual quality may raise it's target audience range by a few years.

Purely on technical merits, it doesn't look very good.
However, this may not be required for the money to be made.

I agree with your comments in terms of the trailer quality. And kids don't really care about quality, but I think it's the parents that will have to cough up the dough and there's plenty of choice, also in the Christian niche market. And I don't think kids will ask their parents to buy it seeing that trailer either.

A trailer can make or break a movie, in particular if there's no other exposure like an expensive poster and tv campaign. In general I would say the quality and content should match the actual product but from a commercial point of view it should try and sell the product and take the best bits and pieces, screw the buyer if the rest sucks, you've got their money. A hardcore porn movie does not sell if the trailer shows the dialogue scenes and storyline. And a Christian animation trailer should either appeal to the kids by being bright and colorful or to the parents by really pushing the biblical references.

Not that I want to give advice to increase the sales of that DVD, as I stated before there are far better ways to educate children and teach them values without resorting to religious icons...

I can't believe this thread has made it to three pages.

It just goes to show, you can't discuss religion or politics without a fight breaking out.

Exactly... And imagine the producer decided to only cast ugly people to save his money... It's the quality i am talking about.
