AS speed rigging video

Post by Víctor Paredes »

Hi, yesterday I had to trace and rig a character for a project I commented before. I decided to capture in video the entire process to share it with you here. The original video is one hour and twenty minutes, but I speed up the velocity to get 3:20 minutes.
I hope you enjoy it:

Wow Selgin, and I thought I drank too much coffee in the morning
But really, It could have been a bit slower, maybe around 10 min.s would allow us to actually see what all you're doing. Everything flew by so fast, it made my eyes hurt. Very nice character though.

I played it in media player classic, makes it watchable and the singing becomes very funny in slow motion.

Well done selgin!

[edit] I meant to say that I watched it in slow motion in media layer classic.

I will still look at it in slow motion, the signing is too funny that way, but thanks! :)

No one listens to me, they just want me to sit in a corner and look pretty, don't they! ;)

The first one is quite watchable in slow motion, but the second one is still more usable, thanks again Victor!

you are a master of your craft :)

what I found interesting was that you started doing rotations on everything as you were drawing it... i've never tried this unusual workflow but maybe i'm missing something!
I watched the 3 min version and feel like an alien has just unloaded the entire human knowledge into my brain while I try to actually make sense of it... i will watch the 10 min version, i think there's a lot to learn there!

You should probably put an epilepsy warning on the first one ;)
Thanks for sharing

hehe, sorry all for the video velocity, I hope your brains be ok now.
I just finished the cycle we needed, so obviously I created an animated gif of it :)

thanks all for the kind words.
funksmaname, I use that workflow because this way I know just in time if I need more points or shapes. Anyway, I did it thoughtlessly, but I suppose I finally save some time fixing that details at first.

its often the most 'thoughtless' things that are the most useful! :)

Oh ***** I feel like Johnny Mnemonic after he's had to much information.

Things that blew my mind;
* You work in 3 dimensions, switching profile, right, center.
* You drew his facial features off the side of his head and masked them to give a smooth turn.
* you drew the back of somethings under the front shapes so that you could move them
* loads of actions and you seemed to assign points to bones more than using influence.
EDIT: Oh and the animation actually took no time as you just had to tweak blends

Seriously my friend....Seriously!!!

I feel like everything I've learned about constructing a character is wrong..wrong wrong... I'm sure its not and probably an average technique... but with average methods you can only get average results...

your stuff is always special and now I know why.. mwwhaa hah ha haa and your knowledge is mine.. mine I tell you... oO( just need to be able to stop the headaches from it and animation domination will be mine!!..ouch head.. )
