He moved a layer along the path of the face and then used the Scripts->Layer Effects->Layer Trail command. It creates a line that follows behind a layer's origin point.

Excellent! Thanks for posting the .moho file.

The Layer Trail layer does not seem to do anything in the file though. All of the work is done by masking and point animation.

What the layer-trail does is to create a line when a layer moves. If you have a simple square that moves from one plce to another and then add a layer-trail there will be a line that shows where the square moved.

Like footprints. Hey! Thats a good idea! If you hade an layertrail with a footprint-brush you could make footprints! I havn't thought of that before.

Well, that's how layer-trail works. It adds a line that shows where a leyer has been. Like in the "Indiana Jones"-movies when they travel over the worldmap.

So the reason that no layertrail is shown in Bupajes exampel is that there in no moving layer which you could add the effect, exept the particle-layer (the sparks), but I don't see what good that would do.

Does anyone have an idea of how to use this technique with letters that when writing, cross back over themselves? I'm thinking of a lower-case "e" in cursive.

I'm also wondering how to achive this "masking" or "trailing" thing when to follow handwriting, also when the writing has different thickness for the outlines, i.e. I want to reveale something already written.
