Music Video

Post by Mikdog »

Hi,

Put a little test together for a music video for a band I really like:

Will see if anything comes of it.

For the band check www.goldfishlive.com

Funny.

The changing BG colours (inverted) may become a problem. I noticed that line art tends to disintegrate in the viewer's head when inverted. Maybe it's better to change between two colour styles, radically different, but both with black outlines.

Hey slow ;)

Thanks.

Another option is to just have is as a side-scroller:

Will try that colour suggestion. Thanks ;) Hope you're doing well.

I think the second test is too static. Changing the colours is a good and cheap way to visually back up the rhythm.

If all BG elements are done in AS, why not try some silly "dancing trees" like in a 1925 cartoon? Of course it needs to be done in the spirit of the song. I remember having seen some clip by Mike Smith (who did animation for a Grace Jones clip) from the 80's where all houses bounced in rhythm. Very nice. I always wanted to do something like that myself.

Thanks. Nice thought about the colours.

Did that with this next test:

Kind of nice.

Neat thing about this song is that its 125BMP, and if I'm running AS Pro @ 25 FPS, there's a beat exactly every 12 frames. Makes cycles and loops work.

Thanks,

Mike

Maybe needs a redo, but it makes me laugh. Ha ha.

Nice. I had seen something done in that technique recently, it was just a bit more animated than our usual cutout, but worked nicely with that hint of squash and stretch.

I can imagine a music video entirely done like this, with lots of photos of the band members in funny poses, then animated. Would be quite surreal. A project like that needs some storyboard in the beginning, though.

Shot.

Put up an animatic for the video:

Still need the shortened edit of the song to time it out properly.

Kiff.

Hey Mikdog, this is great! :) so much going on! plenty of funny ideas...
Pacing seemed too quick though? do you think you could maintain this timing throughout... so much work and maybe too much to take in for the viewer? love the style of you characters though...

*edit - just re-read your msg, so this isnt timed yet? its gonna be great :)

well done :)

Niiiiice!

But an awful lot of work. I estimate you have to create about twice as much material than the average animated videoclip. How big is your team? *gg*

Hi,

Thanks guys.

Is a bit of work. I'm drawing everything in Photoshop then exporting as layers to AS Pro with the EXPORT TO LAYERS script in the EXTRA FILES directory.

Not timed yet.

Got to time it to the radio-edit version to see how everything works.

Team of 1, man. Team of 1. ;)

Should take about 2 months.
