Free (traditional) animation program "Pencil".

A place to discuss non-Moho software for use in animation. Video editors, audio editors, 3D modelers, etc.

Free (traditional) animation program "Pencil".

Post by MarkBorok »

I just found this, don't know if it's been mentioned on here before: http://www.les-stooges.org/pascal/penci ... hp?id=Home

It's a pretty decent program for basic frame-by-frame animation, as if you were drawing on paper. There's a bitmap pencil tool and a vector tool which isn't quite as good as the one in Flash (it tends to make random squiggles in your line, although you can set the smoothness value in the preferences). But for basic animation it's really good. And free. And cross-platform.

There are more comments on the software in this thread.

Oh, right, I remember seeing that thread now. Oddly, at the time I thought the software didn't sound that impressive.

My experience with it has been pretty good. Image import works. I like the dynamic zoom. It also has rotation of the drawing area that works nicely, although this would be more useful if the vector tools were better (it's good for doing clean-up, something Flash really needs).
